🥈 @asics_saintelyon over the 156km 5000m lyonsa 🥈 @asics_saintelyon over the 156km 5000m lyonsaintelyon race. A race where I learnt so much about myself, my ability as an athlete, my motivation, my relationship with my husband..I truly truly had to go deep inside my ❤ on the return leg where we battled ❄, 🧊 and freezing 🥶 wind through the long dark night. My athletic performance on the return leg was way below the way I know I can run, but the strength I held throughout where others were failing, the ability to shut up the monkey, all the what ifs, all the noise which was desperate to surface from my soul, I just shut it down and kept moving and kept believing in myself. I understand more and more as I continue my ultra journey that the hours and hours you spend training are often not reaped physically but mentally when the going gets tough. When you are stripped bare and there is nothing left in the body, you have to reach so deep into your ❤ and last weekend when I faced that moment I truly felt the strongest I have ever felt. The support of others, especially my husband @morzless5 and coach @jonalbon, the 100s of tough sessions I did solo up the same track whilst no one watched. The planning, the sacrifices, every dumbell lifted and muscle pummeled, every day turning up for training when it would be so easy to stop. When it was all hard and what was the point anyway? The weekend showed me the point. It showed me that though I am hurtling past 40, have 3 👨‍🦰🧑‍🦰👩‍🦰 and a busy mad life I can still achieve huge athletic endeavours. I still have the determination, the belief and drive. I truly believe that those little people waiting at home, tracking their mum, seeing their dad supporting and encouraging their mum it will have changed their life path, the way they handle their dreams, goals and relationships. Though I was so alone out there at times last weekend, I never felt alone, I could feel their ❤ driving me home. I could feel their belief. That was for our family and what we stand for. Strength, courage, belief and a sprinkle of the crazy! Go out there and see what you can do....we believe in you....❤❤❤❤ #ultrarunning #ultrarunningmum #therealyellowjersey #chiacharge #recovery #
⚖ The balance...an unrealistic ideal we are alwa ⚖ The balance...an unrealistic ideal we are always to trying to aim towards. We want everything and we want it now. A healthy family, a flourishing career, athletic endeavours that motivate and ✅ the boxes that all of the above constantly strives to take away. A 🏡 that's clean, tidy, a laundry basket that constantly isn't splurging it's contents on the floor that needs a hoover. An inbox that needs attention (take that as you like! 😉), what's apps that never get replied to, birthdays forgotten or late, the homework, the activities, the endless need to be somewhere else and be doing something else. Feck it hurts to just type it. Add to that a training programme which is relentless, takes grit, determination and believe to batter through day in day out. How do I do it all? I don't. No one does. Don't believe the gram. I shout, I cry, I lose my s**t with the little darlins when I shouldn't. I stay up late working till my eyeballs bleed, I push the hoover round on rest days or if someone is coming over, I eat microwaved rice out of a packet. I live on tea. I go to 🛌 so exhausted every night. But I truly believe I am living life. I am truly feeling all the highs and lows of parenting, training and just surviving. I am showing the kids that it's OK to not be perfect, that ❤, a fire lit, a hot meal and a hug at the end of the day is more important than anything else. Here's to exhaustion, heres to parenting, to trying your best, to falling but getting up. To the messy side of life which I feel we don't share enough, mainly as we don't have time! 📸 by husband where I had literally ran myself to total exhaustion and he had had to dress me post race. As I really embrace my 40s I have noticed a few th As I really embrace my 40s I have noticed a few things I feel it's important to share because then you can all comment and say you feel the same way! 😊 ✅ I am always always tired however early I go to 🛌 ✅ It takes me longer and longer to warm up ✅ It takes me longer and longer to recover ✅ I can't go out late and by late I mean past 9pm ✅ I have no time or patience for unpositive or unmotivated people or people who take ages to pack their shopping in carrefour (not the 👵🏻 they can take as long as they like) ✅ I can't sniff 🥂 without a hangover Having whined to myself yesterday during a 1km rep session (which I remember smashing out in my 20s and heading straight to the pub..and now takes 2 days carefully managed recovery to feel normal again 😀) I reminded myself that feeling all these feelings, getting older, getting wiser (read just getting more impatient) is a privilege. I am so lucky to feel these aches and pains, to still be able to train like I'm 21 (with a few adaptations...like gripping the handrail down the stairs in the morning!) , to feel exhausted from training, to still be pushing my limits and still believe that though my fast days may be behind me I still have many adventures ahead. 5 weeks to go till my 100 miler and though I may be feeling the training, the 🔥 burns bright and the 3 little pairs of 👀 watching their mum never stop motivating these 👩‍🦳🦵🦵 #letsdothis #getting stronger 💪 #olderathlete #ultra women #mumsthatrun #strongat40 #ultrarunning #runtothehills #therealyellowjersey
🥈 place @ut_montagnes_du_jura this weekend! 79k 🥈 place @ut_montagnes_du_jura this weekend! 79km and 3000m of beautiful ⛰ A step in the right direction towards @asics_saintelyon (the big un) 💪 Put into practice my nutrition (6 litres of @tailwindnutritionfrance 16 @spring_energy gels, plus some banana and cups of coke) my patience in pacing and totally focusing on my own race No one wants to have to run the last 15km of a tough ultra as hard as they can...but I kept saying to myself to be grateful to be able to do this, to be able to still put my 41 yr old body post 3 👱🧑👩 on the line and to keep pushing..I truly believe the last 10km of an ultra is when the 1000 and 1000s of hours of training we do counts. For me all those winter hard metres 🎿 , bleary eyed morning runs, late night pilates classes (thanks @georgiekennington ❤) lonely zwift sessions and bleeding eyeball hill reps 🤣 thank you to my lovely friends who took care of the 👱🧑👩and 🐕 @helen.lavender @helenclairecunliffe and @amybez And the biggest thank you to my amazing husband, who spent the whole weekend chasing me around the @montagnes_du_jura. Giving me just the perfect amount of encouragement and talking to...I could see he believed I could do it and all I had to do was believe. So I did. Eyes on the prize for the next few months....@ut_m Eyes on the prize for the next few months....@ut_montagnes_du_jura first then @asics_saintelyon BIG ONE....paved my way out towards @utmbmontblanc 2022 with the help of the amazing @jonalbon who not only inspires me in his words and encouragement, but also in his training and racing. I've told him I'm going 'ALL IN' for the next few months and to treat me as so...I repeated this like a broken record on my 4hr run on Friday when I was hot, bothered, tired and sore....ALL IN EDDIE ALL IN!! Now I'm looking at next week's training slightly scared about putting this all together as well as the 👱🧒👱‍♀️ and work....but you never know what you capable of until you truly commit to something so let's see what I can do....
